Smoking/Drinking scenes banned on TV

The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) has announced that TV channels should not have smoking or drinking scenes in them commencing from September 1, 2011.


Badulla gets allocations for development

Badulla district has got more than Rs. 4650 million for the development activities in the district this year. These funds were allocated at the Badulla District Coordination Committee meeting held at District Secretariat Office last week.

Development in Mullativu

Several infrastructure development projects in the Mullaitivu district were declared open by the Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa during the weekend. These included a modern bus-stand, a sub-post office and an IT centre in Thunnukkai, in the Mullaitivu district.


Northern fisher folk to protest against Indian Trawling

Fisher folk in the Northern area are to gather on September 10th to discuss methods to prevent Indian fishing trawlers from entering Mannar and Thalaimannar waters. Fishermen’s trade unions have decided to gather fisher folk in the Northern area for this meeting.
